The
business model we employ, exclusive use of the preserve by you
and your guests, ensures that the preserve is lightly hunted. We
have a very healthy herd with great numbers. The majority of our
preserve is managed strictly for recreation with no compromises
created by agricultural concerns. Food plots and natural cover
abound. Several hundred acres of mature oak/hickory forest
provide great mast for deer and turkey. The recent purchase of a
110 acre parcel on our southern border connects us to the protected
forest land surrounding Kerr Lake.
Deer
hunting is best during the archery and muzzle loading seasons.
Hunting deer with dogs is popular here in southern Virginia, and
allowed during modern firearms season. We do not pursue that
particular sport or allow it on the preserve, but we can't always
control the dogs of others. During modern firearms season, it
is not impossible to have a pack of hounds run through our hunting
areas. In order to preserve great hunting during archery and black
powder seasons we do not book deer hunts during modern firearms
season.
Now,
this is not a "trophy hot spot." The deer don't come out to feeders
in sight of tree stands (baiting deer is illegal in Virginia).
This is real fair chase hunting in an area with good genetics, light
pressure, and great habitat. You might spend hours in the well
placed stand on the perfect day and see only does and spikes.
Then again you may find your patience, preparation, and stealth
rewarded by the chance to take a buck that has out smarted those who
would harvest him for years. For
